On December 22nd, President Obama announced his intention to nominate Taft attorney John B. Nalbandian as a member of the Board of Directors of the State Justice Institute.  Nalbandian is a partner in Taft's Cincinnati Office and a member of the firm's Litigation Department.

The State Justice Institute (SJI) was established by Federal law in 1984 to award grants to improve the quality of justice in State courts, facilitate better coordination between State and Federal courts, and foster innovative, efficient solutions to common issues faced by all courts. For fiscal year 2010, SJI’s budget was increased by 25% up to $5.1 million to fund pilot programs in state courts across the country. 

The appointment, which requires Senate confirmation, will add Nalbandian as one of 4 public members of the 11-person board of SJI.  Six members are sitting state court judges; one is a state court administrator.
