Joe Parker, Steve Jett and Bruce Lowe Win Big for Client

R. Joseph Parker, a partner in the Litigation Department of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP, recently won a favorable verdict for his client. He served as trial attorney for a citizen of Ireland who had been sued in the Hamilton County, Ohio, Court of Common Pleas by his American partner attempting to oust him from his ownership interest in a chain of Irish pub style restaurants know as Claddagh Irish Pubs. The plantiff also sought substantial monetary damages from Parker’s client. On behalf of his client, Parker counterclaimed for various breaches of their operating agreement and for breaches of fiduciary duty. Parker also crossclaimed against the company itself to establish the right to recover on loans made by his client’s Irish company to the American company.

After a three week jury trial, the jury returned verdicts in favor of our client on all counts and totaling approximately $23 million. Included in the verdict was an award against the individual plaintiff of $1.5 million punitive damages for breach of fiduciary duty.

Stephen H. Jett and Bruce J. L. Lowe, from the firm’s Cleveland office, also contributed greatly to the positive outcome for the client.
