Taft a Sponsor of Inaugural Illinois Telehealth Forum; Howlett and Suffredin to Participate on Panels

Taft senior counsel Kathleen F. Howlett will moderate the panel discussion “Case Studies: What does it take to Build and Operate a Successful Telehealth Program?” and Lawrence J. Suffredin will participate on the panel “Telehealth’s Value Proposition: Opportunities for Revenue and Cost-Savings” at the Illinois Telehealth Law Forum on April 6. Taft is a sponsor of the forum, which is the first in a three-part series examining the telehealth landscape in Illinois and the broader Midwest. The forum has been organized by the Partnership for a Connected Illinois, a private not-for-profit organization (PCI) originally formed to utilize funds from President Obama’s American Recovery Act to extend broadband connectivity throughout the state of Illinois. Howlett concentrates her practice in the areas of health law, corporate transactions, health law litigation, probate and employment law. Suffredin focuses his practice on government relations.

Taft Chicago partner-in-charge Anthony R. Licata will present a tribute to the late Charles Benton, who founded the Benton Foundation in 1981 and served as its chairman until his death in 2015. The Benton Foundation is a nonprofit organization dedicated to promoting communication in the public interest. Over the years, the foundation has been a catalyst for increasing broadband deployment and adoption, particularly for America’s most vulnerable populations. Mr. Benton was chairman of the board of PCI during the years it was carrying out the broadband program under the American Recovery Act. Licata is a board member and treasurer of PCI.

The forum will originate from Chicago and will be transmitted via video to three other sites around the state. Continuing education credits may be available for multiple professions, including lawyers, doctors, mental health professionals and allied medical professions.
