Vaselaney Article Published in Probate Law Journal of Ohio

Taft partner Missia H. Vaselaney’s article “Estate Planning of the Rich and Famous” was published in the November/December 2015 issue of the Probate Law Journal of Ohio. The article acknowledges that while celebrities may have more money than individuals, upon death their estate problems are no different than anyone else’s. In other words, no “red carpet” treatment in this regard.

Issues encountered by the rich and famous estates include:

  • Pre-arranged funerals and second marriages.
  • Tangible personal property.
  • Lack of updates to wills and funded revocable trusts.

The issues are explained though scenarios that Vaselaney paints for many celebrities and screen stars, including Casey Kasem, Farrah Fawcett, James Brown, Mickey Rooney, Robin Williams, Heath Ledger, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Paul Walker.

Vaselaney focuses her practice on estate planning for business owners and individuals. She has worked with clients to both plan and administer estates that have ranged from the very modest to the large and sophisticated. Vaselaney also represents clients in probate litigation matters and before federal and state taxing authorities. She is an OSBA Board Certified Specialist in Estate Planning, Trust & Probate Law and is a featured speaker both nationally and state-wide on estate planning and other related matters on behalf of professional associations.
