Allison E. Czerniak

ALLISON E. CZERNIAK is an associate in the firm's Litigation group. Before entering private practice, she gained valuable experience through a series of clerkships, working side-by-side with judges in pretrial proceedings, settlement conferences and at trial.

Allison’s experience includes:

  • Reviewing depositions, exhibits and pleadings, conducting legal research and drafting orders on all dispositive motions.
  • Issuing rulings on pretrial motions and motions in limine.
  • Preparing bench memoranda and the initial drafts of judicial opinions on a variety of civil and criminal issues, including FELA statutory construction, ERISA state-law preemption, limitations on the Commissioner of Revenue’s audit authority, class action certification and quantum meruit recovery of attorney fees.

Prior to joining Taft, Allison served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable Harry D. Leinenweber at the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois and for the Honorable Christopher Dietzen at the Minnesota Supreme Court. While in law school, Allison clerked for the Washington County Attorney's Office in Stillwater, Minn., and was a summer associate at a large law firm in Minneapolis, Minn. She received her J.D., summa cum laude, from the University of St. Thomas School of Law and her B.A. from the University of Minnesota - Twin Cities.

During law school, Allison participated in the University of St. Thomas School of Law Federal Commutations Clinic and successfully petitioned, with the assistance of her professor and a fellow classmate, for clemency on behalf of their client, a low-level, nonviolent drug offender. President Obama commuted the client’s life sentence in September, 2016, and the client was released from prison that fall.
